The Three Ingredients
A server seed is a secret random string the site generates. Before you play, the site shows you a hash of it, a fingerprint that cannot be reversed. A client seed is a string you can set or change yourself, so the site cannot know it in advance. A nonce is a counter that increases with every bet so the same seeds produce different results each round.
The result of a round is computed by hashing the server seed, your client seed and the nonce together and turning the output into a number: a crash multiplier, a roulette slot, a position in a case's odds table. Because the server seed was committed by hash before you bet, and your client seed was yours, the site could not have steered the outcome.
How to Verify a Round
- Find the fairness page in your account settings and note the current server seed hash.
- Play one or more rounds.
- Rotate the server seed; the site reveals the old one in full.
- Hash the revealed seed yourself (any SHA-256 tool) and confirm it matches the hash you saw before playing.
- Paste the server seed, your client seed and the round nonce into the site's verifier, or an independent one, and confirm it produces the result you were paid on.
Site-Wide Rounds
Crash and roulette are shared rounds, so there is no per-player client seed. Sites handle this by committing a chain of hashes in advance and mixing in a public value nobody controls, such as a future Bitcoin block hash, so the whole chain can be audited by anyone. CSGOEmpire and Stake both publish their chain and the block used.
What Provably Fair Does Not Cover
- The house edge: a fair game can still be a losing one; the edge is in the payout table, not the roll
- Case contents and valuations: the roll is fair, but the site chooses which skins are in the case and what it says they are worth
- Withdrawals: fairness says nothing about whether the site will pay
- Account security: a fair roll on a hacked account is still a loss
- Sites that show a verifier but never reveal seeds: the reveal is the whole point
FAQ
What does provably fair mean?
The site commits to a result by publishing a hash before you bet, and reveals the seed afterwards so you can check the result matched the commitment.
Which CS2 sites are provably fair?
Every site on our list runs provably fair games with a verifier. CSGOEmpire, CSGORoll and Stake publish the most complete systems.
Does provably fair mean I can win?
No. It means the roll was not manipulated. The house edge still applies.
